Andrew Pitt  “I love a beer with my mates”

One of the nicest and most genuine blokes you will meet. Let us tell his story.

Club: Power House Cardies (Captain)

5 Nations Team: Wannabees (Captain)

Position: 6, 7, 8.

The early years:

Andy grew up in Launceston – Tasmania. He attended Scotch College and was active in the sporting scene. He represented the state in swimming and rowing and was selected to attend the Australian Institute of Sport (previously QIS).

When Andy was a 12-year-old his parents decided to move to Sydney with his 2 brothers. They settled in Bondi. This was a huge culture shock for Andy. As a young boy Andy became the subject of some bullying from the local kids. As a result, Andy enrolled into a local Martial Arts Kick Boxing gym.

Andy quickly rose through the ranks of Australian Kick Boxing and became Australian Champion. He featured on Sky Fight Night TV and was paid to fight. At 16 he was fighting hardened 40-year-old fighters. These self-defence skills assisted him in his early 20s when he controlled the doors of King Cross night clubs . He saw many things during these years in Kings Cross but prefers to remain tight lipped on these hazy years.

In addition to the Kick Boxing he also took to the sport of Rugby Union. He played for Randwick when Phil Kearns was playing and proudly played for the Cook Islands Sydney team and formed many special friendships in rugby circles.

The Move to Melbourne:

Andy moved to Melbourne around 2000. He joined the Wyndam Rhinos Rugby Union Club near Werribee and enjoyed playing Rugby with a predominantly Pacific Island player base.

Andy then moved to Footscray Rugby Union Club and played 3 years with the club winning numerous Best and Fairest Awards.

Andy decided to give Rugby a break and focused on his kids. He enrolled his 7-year-old boy into Power House Juniors at Newport and commenced coaching.

He went onto coach his under 16 team to a Grand Final with assistant coach Steve Potter (another PH masters legend)

The itch to play Rugby again became too strong and he was recruited by Power House Masters (Cardies) to play in the Australian Masters Games. These AMG events were every second year so Rugby was not a regular activity. However, when Power House Masters heard about Vic masters they were quick to recruit and establish a team in the regular home and away season.

Andy loves the Vic Masters culture and enjoys the new friendships he has made. He thrives on the physicality of the games and enjoys a cold beer after the game.
